Burgundy's Hottest New Domaine - Les Astrelles
30/05/2025
We are delighted to offer you exclusively the most exciting new Domaine to come out of Burgundy - Les Astrelles.
Whilst it is increasingly common to hear of new micro-negociants in Burgundy as well as the next generation taking over - new Domaines - and in the Cote de Nuits no less - is no typical affair. In 2019 Jean-Marie and Isabelle Chapier purchased the old Pierre Naigeon Domaine, and transformed it completely. With some of the best plots in Gevrey Chambertin, and bringing in the hugely talented Julien Millet as winemaker, Domaine Les Astrelles produced their first vintage in 2021.
Julien Millet is the son of Francois Millet, the legendary winemaker of Comte de Vogue. Having tasted with Julien numerous times, there is no doubt that he understands each wine and its needs on both an emotional and technical level that results in a brilliant set of wines. Rather than blending all the Gevrey Chambertin plots together, they are all bottled individually and tasting each lieu-dit is a fascinating lesson in the terroirs of Gevrey Chambertin and the surrounding villages. The wines are airy, with bright pure red fruit, and are very vivid.
The production is tiny - with some vats only being made in half barrel or a barrel or two of each - and many of the wines are made from old vines - which is evident in the intensity of the wines. They are destemmed, vinified by infusion and fermented with indigenous yeasts, with minimal new oak - around 10-30% depending on the cuvee.
The word has already spread in France, where sommeliers are fighting for allocations - a handful of bottles can be found in elite Michelin restaurants such as Taillevent, Guy Savoy and Plenitude Cheval Blanc. Whilst they are approachable and delicious young, the wines will undoubtedly benefit from extended aging which will add even more depth to them.
As this is the first vintage we offer, we highly encourage you to take part in this offer whilst the wines still offer incredible value for Burgundy of this quality. We fully expect the secondary market prices to increase over the coming years - and buyers of the first vintage will be guaranteed an allocation for the 2023 vintage.
“The house style is what I would characterize as flawless, with lively, vivid energy. The wines are in general enjoyable and well made. The style is consistently executed, with light extraction and a balanced oak treatment.” - Steen Ohman, WineHog
“I found a super range – there's freshness, none of the excesses of the vintage but a vin-de-garde style too – all will benefit from 3-5 years of patience – except perhaps the Coteaux Bourguignon! A great range of Gevreys here!” - Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report
"Some excellent wines – a Bourgogne and Gevrey marathon – the domaine that takes the prize for having the highest number of Bourgognes in 2021 – possibly Gevreys too! Clearly not all the elevage was complete but here we have a range that is more than very good – typically excellent and with a few jewels that are worth your time for a special search. Well done Les Astrelles!” - Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report
"I was largely impressed by the quality, especially for only the second vintage as the style is quite pure... based on what I tasted this is clearly a domain worth following. I would note that in particular I was impressed by the entry-level wines and I commend them to your attention." - Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Les Astrelles Gevrey Chambertin "Craite Paille" 2022
£360 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
- From 60 year old vines

'Slowly releasing some florals. This has fine, faintly cushioned width of flavour. And then a slowly finishing, delicious, slightly juicy wave – then another wave of fine flavour. Love that finish but this is a wine to have 2-3 years of patience with.'

Domaine Les Astrelles Gevrey Chambertin "Les Crais" 2022
£360 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
- From 45 year old vines
- 1,200 bottles produced
'A more supple and concentrated depth of darker-red fruit. Open, very aromatic fruit and lovely energy – a hint more direct and certainly more silky than the previous. I sense even some citrus skin in this complexity – that’s super wine – ¨potentially a great villages…'
92/100 - La Revue du vin de France:
'Mûr et pulpeux, Gevrey Chambertin Les Crais se présente rond et onctueux, équilibré, avec une note de framboise.'

Domaine Les Astrelles Gevrey Chambertin Aux Corvees 2022
£360 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
- From 40 year old vines
- 1,300 bottles produced
'A nose that opens out impressively – perfume and fruit – with enviable clarity. More vibrant energy here, very faintly showing the tannin a little more – hardly any grain. A fine, fading, direct line of finishing flavour, quite mineral. I actually prefer the previous today but this is just as good and will improve – bravo!'
93/100 - La Revue du vin de France:
'Gevrey Chambertin Les Corvées se fait plus profond et charnu, avec un beau volume enrobé, une mâche épicée et de l'allonge.'

Domaine Les Astrelles Gevrey Chambertin "En Pallud" 2022
£360 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
- From parcels of 40 & 90 year old vines
- 1,750 bottles produced
'Larger scale and more floral nose – but less ready than most of the previous wines. Scale – clarity, a very faintly grained frame of tannin. Another faintly salty lick to this finishing flavour. That’s going to be a great wine but I would counsel waiting at least 5 years and 8-10 may be much nearer the mark. Super!'

Domaine Les Astrelles Gevrey Chambertin "Croix des Champs" 2022
£360 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
- From 60 year old vines
- 2,400 bottles produced

Domaine Les Astrelles Gevrey Chambertin "En Sylvie" 2022
£375 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
- From 70 year old vines
- 850 bottles produced
'More airy but with purity and more of an implied complexity too. Broad, open, almost as fluid as the last and with a little more complex energy. This has more to offer/develop so seems a little behind the previous in total – but I don’t believe that will be the case in another 3 years – ceratainly it’s already an excellent wine.'

Domaine Les Astrelles Gevrey Chambertin En Vosne 2022
£450 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
- From 60 year old vines
- 600 bottles produced
'More aromatic density here – the florals have more density even – it begs extended aeration. Ooh – but the clarity and fluidity of this is impressive, faintly saline – I think that this is my new favourite! What a beauty!'

Domaine Les Astrelles Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes 2022
£450 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
- From 60 year old vines
- 600 bottles produced
'A nose that slowly releases a very attractive, quite elegant perfume. Hmm – holding the centre of the palate – fine velvet texture – an elegance but also a wine that needs to open out more – but I think that all the parts are in place – it’s very delicious!'

Domaine Les Astrelles Mazis Chambertin "Les Mazis Hauts" 2022
£330 per bt In Bond
- From 70 year old vines
- 130 bottles produced
'Extra deep, extra complex with a subtle cooked note to the darker fruit. Super texture and sinuous depth of mobile flavour. That’s ultra classy – I’d like the nose to take on more elegance – but the rest is really top-level and delicious.'

Domaine Les Astrelles Bourgogne Blanc "Les Closeaux" 2022
£150 per case of 6 bt in Original Case In Bond
- From 35 year old vines in Puligny Montrachet
- 1,200 bottles produced
'A calm nose but with some suggestion of silk and direction. Larger scale in the mouth plenty of citrus bitters – quite a zesty wine – with a little creamy oak too. Large finishing too. That’s very good!'
92/100 - La Revue du vin de France:
'Le blanc Les Closeaux provient de la commune de Puligny : un vin finement citronné, expressif et savoureux, avec de la carrure.'

Domaine Les Astrelles Corton Blanc "Grandes Lolieres" 2022
£300 per bt In Bond
- From 26 year old vines
- 280 bottles produced
'Calm but a growing width here too – silky is my impression again. Properly generous but with fine energy supporting this concentration and flavour complexity. The barrel is forward but not overdone in the finish – and what a finish too – long, long, long.'
