Domaine Les Astrelles Gevrey Chambertin "Croix des Champs" 2022
Tasting Note
'The vineyard of Croix des Champs lies on the eastern side of the RN-74, directly across the road from the vineyards of Jouise and aux Corvées. Julien Millet’s Croix des Champs bottling is made from a nearly half hectare parcel of sixty year-old pinot noir vines. Monsieur Millet chose to raise this wine in ten percent new oak in 2022. The wine shows excellent youthful complexity from its old vines, with the bouquet wafting from the glass in a mix of red and black cherries, smoked meats, coffee bean, a touch of fresh thyme, woodsmoke, a beautiful foundation of Gevrey’s black minerality and a deft framing of new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full- bodied, complex and seamlessly balanced, with a fine core of fruit, outstanding soil signature and grip, fine-grained tannins and a long, tangy and impressively precise finish. This is an excellent Gevrey villages!'
