Tasting Note

'The 2021 vintage of Bryan Deleu’s Exorde bottling of Saint-Joseph tips the scales at a cool 12.5 percent octane and delivers a deep and classic aromatic constellation of cassis, dark berries, black olive, smoked meats, pepper, stony soil tones, coffee bean and a generous serving of smokiness as a topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and quite elegant in profile, with a fine core of black fruit, excellent soil signature and grip, fine-grained tannins and impeccable balance on the long, complex and very classy finish. This wine is so seamlessly balanced that it is already very easy to drink, though it has sufficient buried tannin that four or five years’ worth of cellaring will be nicely rewarded. The 2022 version of Exorde has a touch more sappy depth of fruit at its core than the 2021, but the wines really are equivalent in quality to my palate, just differently styled. Lovley Saint-Joseph. 2025-2050.'
