Tasting Note

'Catherine and Pierre Breton only made their Chinon “les Picasses” bottling up through the 2004 vintage, after which they lost the lease on this parcel of eighty year-old vines. Their 2002 version is drinking splendidly today, delivering a refined aromatic constellation of red and black cherries, a touch of bell pepper, tree bark, dark soil tones, saddle leather, menthol and an exotic hint of red curry in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and well-balanced, with a lovely core of fruit, fine focus and grip, tangy acids, still a dollop of backend tannin and a long, well-balanced finish. There is just a whisper of brett in this wine, but it is very minor and to my palate, not even a distraction, but people have different tolerances.'
