Liqueurs occupy a small but considered corner of the Baron Wines list, chosen by the same criteria we apply everywhere: genuine character, careful production, and the kind of provenance that makes a bottle worth seeking out. 

The two producers here illustrate the point well. Les Matheny - Emeric Foléat's exceptional Jura domaine - produces Macvin du Jura in the same unhurried, uncompromising spirit as the rest of his range: a traditional marriage of grape must and marc that is as individual as anything in his cellar. L. Garnier bottles of Chartreuse, produced during the era when the Carthusian monks used Garnier as their commercial agent, are now collector's pieces, a rare window into one of the world's great herbal liqueurs at a specific moment in its history.
