Krug 1995
Tasting Note
'The 1995 Krug was showing very well indeed at the domaine in June, but side by side with the stunning 1996, it is easy to see that even though the 1995 is cut in a leaner style, it will probably come forward sooner than the 1996 and not be as long lived. The nose is deep, pure and beautifully expressive already, offering up a complex mélange of apple, tart orange, wheat toast, a brilliant base of stony minerality and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure on the attack, with lovely secondary development to the flavors, snappy acids, pinpoint bubbles and superb focus and cut on the very long and complex finish. I am really drawn to racy vintages such as the 1995, and while this does not possess the overt power of the 1996, this is destined to be a terrific vintage of Krug for drinking over the next three decades. I had expected to perhaps like this as well as the 1996, but the younger vintage is indeed a step up from this lovely wine. '
