'I was completely smitten by the refined elegance and ethereal character of the 1989 Comtes de Champagne, as I often associate wines from this vintage with a bit more muscle and a bit less grace than what is delivered by this glorious bottle. The bouquet is a deep and stunning mélange of honeyed almonds, fresh-baked bread just out of the oven, roasted peaches, wheat toast, lovely, chalky minerality and a delicate note of Chablis-like straw. On the palate the wine is medium-full, round and utterly pure, with great length and focus, refined mousse, bright acids and superb length and grip on the very complex and classy finish. Just another routine example of brilliance from the Comtes de Champagne bottling.'
