Terra Vita Vinum Gabouchons VdF 2021 (OCC/6)
Tasting Note
'The 2021 Cabernet Franc “Gabouchon” bottling from Terra Vita Vinum is crafted from cabernet franc vines that are twenty-seven years of age, so they are just coming into their primes. The wine was made from low yields of thirty-five hectoliters per hectare in this vintage, with one hundred percent whole clusters used for the fermentation and the wine aged in a combination of older casks, amphorae and cement eggs. The wine tips the scales at thirteen percent in this classic vintage of 2021 and offers up a very refined young nose of black cherries, dark berries, tree bark, coffee bean, a lovely base of soil, tobacco leaf and plenty of upper register smokiness. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, nicely transparent down to the soil and shows just a touch of natural wine wildness, with a good core of fruit, fine soil inflection, tangy acids (that hint at possible VA down the road, but are sound for the moment), modest tannins and lovely length and grip on the complex finish. I really like the style and complexity of this wine, but it has a bit of easy-going natural wine structure to it and will probably be at its best over the coming half dozen years or so.'
